Now let's look at an example: assume we are playing with four players - A B C D - and our starter cards are 4A 2C 3D 8S (remember suits don't matter). Player A flips over their starter card and it's 4A (an ace). They look at their hand and see that they have two other clubs - 3D 8S - so they decide to put one club down in front of them as their first bet (3D). They then place a counter on top of this card as their second bet (8S). Player B flips over their starter card and it's 2C (a two). They look at their hand and see that they don't have any clubs so they pass.Player C flips over their starter card and it's 3D (a three). They look at their hand and see that they have two other diamonds - 4D 7D - so they decide to put one diamond down in front of them as their first bet (4D). They then place a counter on top of this card as their second bet (7D). Finally, player D flips over their starter card and it's 8S (an eight). They look at their hand and see that they don't have any spades so they pass.

Since nobody has taken all there counters fromphase 1 yet, we move on tobetting round 2! Player A takes one counter from 4D (leaving 7D still counting) and puts it into the centre pile, making 5 piles in total now including A'. Player B takes one counter from 3C making 4 piles altogether including B'. Player C takes onecounter from 2D making 3 piles altogether including C'.
